Carbon/ Climate/ Sustainability podcasts
(selected, these are my current favorites and are ones I have listened to all /nearly all of the episodes)
Another“Resource Rabbit Hole”
Agents of Change in Environmental Justice podcast will give you episodes about the S in ESG Environmental Social Governance, including tribal and cultural issues. None of the other podcasts cover those topics in any depth.
Understory podcast, a recent discovery and new favorite, are shorter than some of the other podcasts, about 20 minutes each, and slightly different less mainstream topics. Another new favorite.
This Week in Startups has been my go-to tech-combined-with-entrepreneurship podcast listen since I read (listened) to Jason Calacanis's book Angel, about his start as an Angel investor, a Brooklyn kid not part of the Silicon Valley crowd. I found the podcast somewhere in the 800's of episodes, it's at 1576 now. Not climate per se but some of the interviews cover relevant companies (Flexport for example). Broadcasts 6 days a week at an hour plus per episode.
Molly Wood, formerly of NPR Marketplace, joined Jason as co-host January 2022 and does a This Week in Climate Startups episode every Sunday now, a not to miss.
The All In podcast is Jason Calacanis and 3 of his mega millionaire pals. Not environmental, sometimes distinctly the opposite, but you'll hear how some very bright minds view the state of the world and how they think current events might impact short and long term. One of the “besties”, David Friedberg, is a big biotech investor so you'll hear some new developments on that topic. Weekly, a little over an hour each.
The first specifically climate podcast I listened to, 318 episodes as of this writing. A little strident, with an agenda, but a very wide range of topics and long form podcasts (1-2 hours), good info.
Two sides of the same coin, both by Columbia University. Good and broad coverage specifically of energy topics, browse Columbia Energy Exchange first. The Big Switch had some interesting episodes about the Texas grid problems during the polar vortex. Columbia University also produces Watt It Takes podcast (I've only listened to a few of those)
ESG Insider and ESG Now podcasts will inform you about Environmental Social Governance topics, which you will hear from a Wall Street/ investment perspective. Not much boots on the ground here.
All Things Chemical podcadt is by a law firm that works with chemical companies, but you will hear a balanced presentation, especially about how recent changes to TSCA, the EPA Toxics Substances Control Act, are being interpreted and implemented.
ECHA podcast, the European Chemical Agency covers EU topics. The EU is way ahead of the US, so this podcast gives you insight into best practices and potential future US topics.
The Environmental Transformation podcast covers a blend of EU and US topics.
Community Outreach: Your favorites? Especially with a particular episode you would recommend (which I realize I didn't do here, browse the episode titles and look for something that interests you)
Til next time…
