24 Days: Oops! When is your signer (certifying official) available?

And are they already set up as an authorized signer?

Signer must be a company official with the aurhority to budget funds for implementation and compliance

This should have been a “first week” post (and will be in the upcoming workbook and next year)

While your world may have been completely consumed by Tier2 activities for the last 36 days, its a bet that it hasn’t been for the person who needs to sign and certify your Tier2

My first (and only) story around successfully resolving snafus like not getting on the person’s schedule was when I was helping a cleanup contractor submit a bid to remediate the Seymour Recycling facility.

(Seymour, IN is the home of John Cougar Mellencamp, of the song “Little Pink Houses” fame. It was also where the IRS padlocked the gate where 85,000 drums of waste originally designated for “thermal recycling” (incineration) were piled up. The site also had picric acid, a shock sensitive material, buried on-site. Somewhere.)

The owner of the company submitting the bid for cleanup and therefore authorized signer of the proposal was on his family’s annual retreat to a fancy resort in Islamorada, FL. I got a plane ticket and a night’s stay out of the deal. As a former Floridian and since it was winter in Michigan, this was a treat.

You might not be so lucky.

Get on their calendar now for a review session of the documentation and signing.

And If you have a new signer compared to last year, start NOW to get them authorized to sign in the software that you are using.

And now for more resources

And since I’m a Michigander, here’s the link to the Michigan SARA Title III page. Click the button to the right for the Tier2 Manager program.

Also, the 3rd webinar of the EGLE Tier2 webinars listed below is specifically around filling out the custom Michigan software program (it predates Tier2Submit).

More tomorrow, here’s to March 2nd!

Community outreach: How long has it taken you to get new signers entered into the software program your state uses?

Michigan Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy EGLE links from all three 2022 SARA 312 virtual training course webinars:

I’m reposting these links with my daily Tier2 post because they are so useful.

You can sign in and watch/listen even if you didn’t sign up for the webinar series.

RECORDING LINK FOR SESSION 2:  Wed Jan 19, 2022.

Really good example on batteries. This is the “in the weeds” how to conduct your threshold determinations episode: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/recording/4027906237723673347

I talked to Mike Young, one of the presenters, right after the first webinar. He said that it’s not unusual for them to take phone calls from people from other states (with the warning to confirm that your state doesn’t have differences in their requirements compared to Michigan).

Michigan uses Tier2 Manager for report submission, which is a Michigan-specific program. If your state uses different software, you will need to review its specific requirements.

If your state uses a different software program there may be some differences, but this webinar will probably also cover how to determine the Hazard Ratings, how to enter Locations, and other details associated with report submission. I’ll post the replay when it becomes available.
